LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A strong turnout is helping a Lima service club continue its mission of supporting area youth.

About 170 people participated in the Lima Noon Optimist Club’s second annual Quarters for Kids fundraiser. Attendees raised paddles for a chance to win designer purses, electronics, travel gift certificates and more during the quarter auction.

In addition to the auction, the event featured horse races for cash prizes, a human slot machine and several side raffles. Proceeds from the fundraiser will support a variety of youth programs throughout the community.

“Obviously Safety City, Lima Youth Orchestra is a really big one that we do. We do a lot of the baseball for kids, and a lot of just different events, Trick or Treat out at Safety City. That's ours too, you know. So just yeah, a lot of events, a lot of things that we do, and even sponsoring things outside the club's events for youth in this community. All that you get to do for kids and this really supports that. So, when we see a good crowd and a good response, it just warms our hearts, because that means we can do more for the community,” said Paul Downing of the Lima Noon Optimist Club.

The Noon Optimist Club plans to continue the Quarters for Kids fundraiser in the future.
