LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — For more than 30 years, the Lima Noon Sertoma Club has been helping children develop stronger communication skills by connecting them with needed services.

In recognition of Speech and Hearing Month, the club named Ariel Gambrell as its ambassador and poster child. Doctors once told Ariel’s parents that she would never be able to read, write or communicate like other children. After receiving speech therapy, she is now speaking in full sentences, and her parents say they are grateful for the support she received.

Lima Noon Sertoma Club names young ambassador for speech and hearing month

In recognition of Speech and Hearing Month, the club named Ariel Gambrell as its ambassador and poster child.

By connecting children with speech therapists and audiologists at an early age, the Sertoma Club aims to improve their quality of life.

“It's good to reach out and give back to the community and provide these services that a lot of kids desperately need, and it makes a big difference. My children went through the program and hey, the benefits have been great,” says Stephen Welly, Pres., Lima Noon Sertoma Club.

The club is preparing for its summer program, with screenings scheduled for the end of the month. The program will run from June 10 through July 10.
