LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Hospitals and medical facilities in several foreign countries will soon benefit from medical equipment no longer needed at a local hospital.

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s is donating more than a dozen stretchers, beds and examination tables to the Lima Rotary Club. The club is part of Rotary District 6600, which created the Medical Equipment and Supplies Abroad program, known as "MESA." The program helps provide much-needed medical supplies to countries in need.

Lima Rotary, St. Rita’s team up to send medical supplies abroad

Mercy Health – St. Rita’s is donating more than a dozen stretchers, beds and examination tables to the Lima Rotary Club.

"St. Rita's does an excellent job helping those around Lima, Allen County and the regions they serve, and now they are here working with Lima Rotary Club, where we can collectively help others," said Dave Frost of the Lima Rotary Club.

"It's a wonderful thing to be able to take equipment that we are no longer able to utilize in the healthcare environment here and be able to redeploy that to countries that might be able to make good use of this equipment that has useful life left," said Ronda Lehman, president of Mercy Health – St. Rita’s.

"This is an important donation. Some of it is going to go to Lebanon, some is going to go to Mexico, and some to Ukraine," said Scott Salyers, MESA director of operations.

The donation will be transported to MESA’s warehouse in Fostoria and shipped out later this month.
