LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The community gathered at Lincoln Park Tuesday evening for the City of Lima and Lima Memorial Health System’s “National Night Out.”

Residents had the chance to interact with first responders from Lima Police, Lima Fire, and Lima Memorial. The event featured a variety of activities, including drone and K-9 demonstrations, dunk tanks, inflatables for kids, and a community cookout. Lima Memorial also offered free health screenings and information about its services. While the evening was full of fun, the event’s goal was to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the community.

Lima’s National Night Out brings community and first responders together

“It's a good way for people to see the police when there's not a 9-1-1 emergency going on, and the biggest thing is the police in the community have to work together. So we cannot do our job without the community's support, and if we're doing our job and don't want to help the community, then why are we doing it essentially,” says Lt. Ben Thompson, Lima Police Department.

“This is an excellent opportunity for us to get together with local agencies, show case not only what our department can do but also what our hospital can do for our community. The key is keeping our community healthy and safe,” says Chief Rick Sanchez, Lima Memorial Health System Police Department.

Organizers estimate up to 1,500 people attended.
