LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The Samaritan House held its annual "Raisin' Bread" ceremony at the Veterans Memorial Civic Center to raise money for the nonprofit through silent auctions, 50/50 drawings, and live entertainment.
Each year, the Samaritan House provides shelter to nearly 250 women and children, and more than 12,000 meals. Executive Director Brandi Schroeder says running a shelter takes constant upkeep — from utility bills and food to repairs and maintenance — all of which rely on donations and community support.
"It's like running a giant house and having guests all the time, and different personalities. It's a little tricky for group living. You just want to meet people where they are and help them to feel loved and encouraged to help them on their journey."
