Tressel served as the keynote speaker for the Allen County Republicans’ Lincoln Reagan Dinner, where he emphasized the importance of workforce development. He has been traveling across the state meeting with educators, business leaders, and elected officials to discuss strategies for building a competitive labor force.

He said the state must first identify its workforce needs, determine how to meet them, and then effectively communicate that information to residents.

“You're hearing a lot of the same things, but you're also hearing that we do need more awareness for our young people and for our people who are maybe on the sideline right now, who are looking to really go out and make a difference in the workforce, to learn more about how do I get there,” said Tressel.

Tressel added that exposing children to career opportunities as early as elementary school is a critical step.

“Which means letting them go and get their hands dirty a little bit and see what it's all about to create something, to make something, to be a part of a team working on a project. To try to be a world leader in something so having that exposure from an early age and then making it simple as to what do I have to do to get there,” he said.
