September 25, 2025, Press Release from Mercy Health - St. Rita's:
LIMA, Ohio – With the goal of raising awareness to breast cancer, Mercy Health is hosting the 4th annual ‘I Pink I Can’ 5K event! The 5K racing event will be held Saturday, October 25 at 9 a.m. at 730 W. Market St., Lima, Ohio.
Each year, nearly 287,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer – which equates to nearly one in eight women who will face this diagnosis within their lifetime. However, the death rate among these women has decreased as a result of early cancer screening as well as increased awareness and better treatments.
Breast cancer can have different risk factors depending on age, reproductive history, or family history. Other lifestyle choices may include:
- Being physically active
- Maintaining a healthy weight
- Reducing or quitting smoking
- Limiting alcohol consumption
Breast cancer presents itself differently in every woman. Because of this, the best option to detect early breast cancer is by getting an annual mammogram.
The 5K race has a $5 registration fee and a deadline of Monday, October 13 to be guaranteed a t-shirt. You can still register after that date but will not get a shirt with your entry. Walk-ins will also be welcomed the day of the event. Prizes will go to individuals wearing the best pink attire.
