SHAWNEE, Ohio (WLIO) - A local scout has reached a historic milestone.
Mia Kohli of Scouts BSA Troop 106 has earned the rank of Eagle Scout, becoming the first young woman in the Great Oaks District to achieve the honor since the Scouts BSA program opened to girls in 2019. Mia hopes her leadership and example will inspire younger girls and fellow scouts to follow their passions.

The project encourages children to connect with nature and overcome their fears of bees through education and hands-on interaction.
"If you put your mind to something, you can do it. It might seem really hard, but once you do it, if you're passionate about it, you'll get far," said Mia Kohli, Eagle Scout with Scouts BSA Troop 106.
For her Eagle project, she partnered with Shawnee Elmwood Schools and several local organizations to install a pollinator habitat. The project encourages children to connect with nature and overcome their fears of bees through education and hands-on interaction.
"I hope that they learn from it, because we have bee houses and things like that. Also, to not be scared of bees, because most of the time they're not harmful, and they're just there to help the environment. They're actually really cool to learn about if you look into it," said Kohli.
Mia’s achievement paves the way for future generations of young women in scouting and highlights the growing opportunities for leadership and community service within the Scouts BSA program.
