LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — A summer golf program that has helped develop several outstanding high school golfers over the years is returning once again for area youth.

The Mulligans Golf Association, supported by Tamarac Golf Club and the Smith Jones Family Foundation, is offering a free summer golf program for children ages 8 to 17. The program is designed to teach participants the fundamentals of golf while also providing intermediate and advanced instruction for more experienced players. Organizers said the only things required from participants are attendance, participation and commitment, while the program helps provide the rest.

“Ultimately, we want to tie in the fundamentals and core values in golf, so that way each child can then use that in their everyday life and in their development as they continue to grow,” said Leiahnni Smith, program instructor for the Mulligans Golf Association.

Smith encourages parents to register their children soon because spots fill quickly. The program is limited to the first 40 golfers who sign up. Sessions will be held Mondays and Wednesdays for five weeks from June 8 through July 8 at Tamarac Golf Club. Organizers said a limited number of loaner golf clubs and used equipment will be available for participants in need. Parents interested in registering their children are encouraged to contact Londell Smith at (419) 236-8947 for more information.
