Northwest Ohio Literacy Council announces 30 purses in 30 days

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Northwest Ohio Literacy Council is putting a new twist on its biggest annual fundraiser by giving supporters chances to win throughout September.

Instead of giving away one purse each week for a year, the council's annual purse lottery will feature 30 purses in 30 days during September, which was selected because it is National Literacy Awareness Month.

The purses range in value from $300 to $1,000 and include designer brands such as Valentino, Kate Spade and Coach.

Proceeds from the fundraiser help the council continue its mission of improving literacy skills throughout the community by providing free tutoring services and educational resources.

“The funds that we raise with that, that goes to purchase books, materials, to pay online fees when we put our students on the computers online. A lot of the folks charge us fees to do that, so we have to pay those. We offer all of our tutoring services free of charge to our students. So, in order to keep doing that and not charge for our service, we need to fund it somehow and these are the ways that we do that. So, the generosity of our community supporting us and supporting our fundraisers is what keeps us going,” says Darrell Ball, Ex. Dir. Northwest Ohio Literacy Council.

Tickets for the purse lottery are $30. Winners will be determined by the Ohio Lottery's evening Pick 3 straight drawing each night in September.

Tickets can be purchased online at www.limaliteracy.net by selecting the Purse Lottery tab or in person at the Northwest Ohio Literacy Council office, 563 W. Spring St. in Lima.
