LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — To mark its 70th anniversary, Nutrien Lima awarded a $70,000 transformational grant to a local nonprofit chosen by its employees — Andrew’s House of Hope.

The organization, which operates a recovery home in rural Allen County, helps women dealing with mental health disorders, addiction, or who have survived domestic violence or human trafficking. With the new grant, they will remodel a second location in Lima to expand their services.

The Elm Street Church of the Nazarene donated the home, which will serve as transitional housing to help women in recovery move toward independent living.

With the new grant, Andrew’s House of Hope will remodel a second location in Lima to expand their services.

“We will be able to not only help the women in more than just surviving their recovery or their addiction, but enabling them to give back to the community as well. This will take care of electrical needs and plumbing needs. You know, the bones of the house are good structurally, but once we get past that, then we're we're going to be calling on the church and the community, all of our supporters, to come in and help with the inside of the house,” said Kelly Baeza, executive director of Andrew’s House of Hope.

“What's really neat about this particular grant is no one person made this decision. It was our 210 employees here. They voted, they narrowed the field down from 27 to three, and then from three to one. And so this is where the company wanted to make an investment. And get back to our community. Our employees in Lima decided how that investment could best be made in the Lima area, and they selected Andrew's House of Hope," said Russ Decker, manager of special projects at Nutrien Lima.

Baeza said she hopes to have the new location open by 2026.
