SAFY Drop-In Center collecting winter clothing for Lima youth

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — While temperatures may be warming up for now, Old Man Winter is just around the corner, and one local organization is preparing to help keep area youth warm.

The SAFY Youth Drop-In Center of Lima is collecting donations of new socks and new or gently worn layered clothing, such as hoodies and fleeces, for the children and teens they serve.

Administrators say it’s common to see what they affectionately call “crocs without socks,” referring to teens who don’t have warm footwear or clothing suited for winter weather. They add that even a simple donation can make a big difference.

“Just seeing that we have that extra supply for them not only helps keep them physically warm, but completes their wardrobe and also gives them that sense of confidence of walking in the community or going to school with those pieces of clothing that are appropriate for weather this time of year,” said Regina Colwell, community outreach coordinator for SAFY.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Youth Drop-In Center, located in Suite 112 at 658 West Market Street, next to the Lima Public Library. The center will be accepting donations through November 26.
