LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Pedal power was part of the focus of the Shawnee Local School District open house on Thursday.
The discussion centered on walking and biking safety improvements, including better crossings.
New signs were unveiled to help with that effort, with representatives on hand to answer questions.
Officials say the goal was to gather feedback to help develop the strongest plan possible to keep kids safe.
“We're trying to promote a safety project for the district, to make it safer for the students and people in general just to move about the school. Last year we had a student who was hit by a car and our local community really came forward. The Lima Allen County Regional Planning Commission, the Shawnee Township, both of them got on board big, the Ohio Department of Transportation, so everybody's been helping us out,” says Don Diglia, Superintendent, Shawnee Local Schools.
The Shawnee Local School District is hosting another safety open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Shawnee High School football stadium during its game on Friday.
