SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) — Changes are taking place at the Shawnee Township Fire Department.

Fire Chief Austin Miller was placed on paid administrative leave Friday afternoon by the township’s trustees. When contacted by Your News Now, Trustee Clark Spieles did not provide specific details about the decision, saying only, "Chief Miller was notified and then left." Miller has served as fire chief since Feb. 12, 2024. He succeeded Todd Truesdale, who retired at the end of 2023. Spieles said he does not know how long the administrative leave will last. In the meantime, the department’s three platoon chiefs will oversee operations.
