LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Students at St. Gerard Catholic School helped the West Ohio Food Bank with donations, as well as stocking food into cars of those in need.

As part of their learning, students at St. Gerard Catholic School are reminded of the call to giving back to the community. Through service, students in grades 5th through 8th have been completing meaningful tasks to serve others. After starting out at the Lima Convalescent Home, students then moved to the West Ohio Food Bank to pass out food for those in need. Each student placed different food items into cars, making sure those who were hungry were fed. This act reflects the Christian values the school is built on.

St. Gerard Catholic School students give back through community service

"Well, it's kind of what Jesus Christ teaches, and we're a Catholic school, and God teaches us that we need to be of service to other people and carry his message, and part of his message is just helping others in need. So, that's what we're doing," says Kelly Huffman, social worker for St. Gerard Schools.

Although these students have had a busy week, they have learned a lot about giving back in such a short amount of time.
