LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A reminder to drive safe and responsibly this holiday weekend.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol and local law enforcement will be out enforcing safe and responsible driving during the Memorial Day weekend. That means if you've consumed alcohol, find a safe ride home or a designated driver, and don't text and drive or engage in distracted driving. We spoke to state patrol officers in Lima, and while they will be out in full force for the weekend, we are also entering the 100 deadly days of summer.

"With Memorial Day starting up this weekend, we're entering the 100 deadliest days of summer. Ok so during this time we typically see a pick up of traffic and that's when we see our most crashes and some of our more serious injury crashes as well," said Lt. Nick Boes. "This weekend, I would say people just drive safe, slow it down, and get to where you're going safely."

The 100 deadliest days of summer runs from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend when there is a significant increase in fatal traffic accidents.
