LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – A longtime Lima tradition is preparing for another year as volunteers finish stocking shelves for the upcoming AAUW Book Fair.

The sale will take place at the former Rite Aid store at West Elm Street and Eastown Road. Inside the building, volunteers say they have organized between 120,000 and 150,000 books, along with games, puzzles, CDs and DVDs. The annual event not only draws book lovers from across the region but also helps support the education of girls in Allen County.

Thousands of books ready for annual AAUW Book Fair in Lima

“This year, we have 13 scholarships of $1,500 each for Allen County girls, and the girls have been so appreciative. We worked with some of them this summer, and they are just so thrilled to have these scholarships. And we have had people come in with donations and talked how they had gotten scholarships years ago and how it impacted their lives. So, it has been an impactful event for 60-some years,” says Sue Ann Shaw, AAUW Financial Officer & Book Fair Co-Chair.

The book fair opens Tuesday, Sept. 2, from 4 to 8 p.m., with a $5 admission fee on opening day only. From Wednesday, Sept. 3, through Friday, Sept. 5, hours will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The fair concludes Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Special pricing will be available throughout the week. Thursday is half-price day, while Friday and Saturday will feature $3 bag and $5 banana box sales, allowing shoppers to fill a bag or box with books for one price. The AAUW Book Fair will be held at the former Rite Aid at the corner of West Elm Street and Eastown Road.
