It was a glorious and patriotic Monday at the Liberty Retirement Community of Lima!
The American Legion Post 96 held a flag retirement ceremony for the staff and residents. At the ceremony, the American flag, Ohio flag, and military flag were retired, and a set of new flags were hung serving to commemorate our great nation and honor all veterans who have served for our freedom. Following the ceremony, we caught up with Samantha Stone on why this flag ceremony is extremely important for their residents and the entire community.
"I think it was really important to see, for the residents and the community to see, that we take pride in our facility and we take pride in America and the American flag. Just everything that goes on here, so I think it was really really important for our residents to go to experience that. Some of them have never gotten to experience a flag ceremony before, so I think it was a really good opportunity for them," said Samantha Stone, director of nursing at Liberty Retirement Community of Lima.
All three of the new flags now fly high in the sky at the retirement community entrance, and the ceremony was followed with refreshments and cupcakes.
