LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Many hands make light work. That was the case at the Children's Garden.
Apollo Career Center students in the construction equipment technology class are lending some helping hands to the Allen County Master Gardeners. They are removing the invasive grasses located on the north side of the garden. It's common for the Apollo class to get hands-on experience by assisting many local agencies.
"We do this stuff because the community helps give us money so we can get new equipment. Last year, we got a new Kubota skid loader, we got mini excavators, and a front loader. And thanks to people in the community, we get to play with that equipment and practice on that equipment, so we give it back to them anyway we can," commented Zach Steinke, a student in Apollo Construction Equipment Technology.
The master gardeners plan on replacing the grass with a pollinator pathway focusing on the three B's: bees, butterflies, and birds. They received a grant from the Lima Neighborhoods in Partnership to purchase the native pollinators. The Children's Garden is located at 620 West Market Street in Lima, Ohio 45801.
