GRAND LAKE ST. MARYS, Ohio - The Lake Improvement Association is proud to announce that we have awarded $1,000 scholarships to three Wright State University-Lake Campus students pursuing studies in water quality and related fields for the 2025-2026 school year.
Two of the scholarships were made possible through direct contributions from the LIA, while the third – the Thomas Rampe Memorial Scholarship – was given by the family of the late Tom Rampe, a longtime LIA board member and dedicated champion of Grand Lake St. Marys.
The scholarship recipients are:
Cory Agler
- Major: B.S. Integrated Science Studies
- Expected Graduation: Spring 2027
- Career Goal: Attend medical school to train as a physician
Favorite Thing About Grand Lake Conservation Efforts:
“My favorite aspect of conservation efforts in the Grand Lake area is the opportunity to understand the breadth of the water quality and environmental conservation challenges in our specific situation, and to take part in cutting-edge research aimed at improving the Lake itself, as well as the greater region. Grand Lake is a huge asset to our local economy, and the ability to have a positive impact on our region for years to come is something that I am very proud to play a small part in.”
Luke Highley
- Major: Integrated Science Studies – Agricultural Concentration
- Expected Graduation: Spring 2026
- Career Goal: Work in agronomy while continuing to help on the family farm
Favorite Thing About Grand Lake Conservation Efforts:
“The new wetlands that continue to spring up around Grand Lake and its tributaries, they’re such diverse areas chalk full of many plant and animal species that always makes for an awesome natural sight to see. It’s also amazing to see the differences being made in real time by the numerous conservation efforts. Even compared to when I was a kid, the lake looks tons cleaner nowadays.”
Gena Vagedes
- Major: Integrated Science Studies – Environmental & Biological
- Expected Graduation: Spring 2028
- Career Goal: Environmental conservation and wildlife management
