WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) – Children were transported to a fairytale world during the Lima Symphony Orchestra’s Storytime program Tuesday morning.

A string quartet visited the Auglaize County Library in Wapakoneta to help bring two books to life through music from composers such as Beethoven and Brahms.

The interactive learning program travels to libraries throughout area counties, offering children a unique opportunity to engage with music and literature. Each season, the books, music selections, and musicians change to keep the experience fresh and exciting for young audiences.

Lima Symphony Orchestra Storytime: Music and Books are Engaging Young Minds

A string quartet visited the Auglaize County Library in Wapakoneta to help bring two books to life through music from composers such as Beethoven and Brahms.

The musicians say they enjoy sharing their passion for music with kids.

“I love this chance to interact with the kids. The kids are so enthusiastic. They bring so much energy. They get exposed to books and the library, but also exposure to music at a young age, which is really important in their development. When I tell them about the instruments, talk about the different parts, some of them, they can relate to. The strings are letters of the alphabet. For example, the bow being made of horsehair and frog, which is part of the bow also. So, all of those things that make sense to them, and hopefully is fun, too,” says Ruth Myers, plays the viola.

The Lima Symphony Orchestra will bring movie magic to the stage during its summer family concert, “Once Upon a Time: Movie Music,” on Saturday, June 28, at 3 p.m. at the Greater Lima Region Amphitheater’s Pangle Pavilion in downtown Lima.

The performance will feature beloved songs from movies such as Aladdin, The Lion King, Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased online at www.limasymphony.com.
