Waynesfield-Goshen will be performing Oklahoma! The Western-themed show takes place in the Oklahoma Territory and follows complicated love stories among multiple characters. This is not the first time Waynesfield-Goshen has performed Oklahoma! The school previously staged the musical in 2005, 1995, and 1979. In fact, the mother of a Waynesfield-Goshen senior lead cast member also had a lead role in the 1995 performance. We asked her son what he thought about that connection.

“It kind of came back to me after everything got set up because my dad would constantly tell me about how good it was back when they were in high school, and I told him that this one was probably going to be better, and I don’t know how that’s going to go over with most of the family, but that’s what I believe in my heart,” says Rocky Cummings, Waynesfield-Goshen senior playing Curly McLain.

Whether they performed back in 1979 or are taking the stage this year, students gain valuable experience long after the curtain falls.

“It definitely broke me out of my shell a little bit, and it helped me open up more, so that will help me a lot in like real life when I get older… and I will take the memories with me, of course, and just all the lessons that I’ve learned,” says Kaylee Douglas, Waynesfield-Goshen senior playing Ado Annie.

“I mean, I think it’s just the basics of hard work, dedication, communication with each other, communication with like people like bosses, people like coaches, stuff like that. Like, communication with others because you get to work with others a lot, and it’s a lot of different moving parts,” says Eli Zechman, Waynesfield-Goshen sophomore playing Will Parker.

Waynesfield-Goshen’s production of Oklahoma! will take place this Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. inside the Waynesfield-Goshen High School Auditeria.
