Friday was a day of celebrating the arts at Bath Elementary School.
The halls were lined with drawings, paintings, and collages. The gym is full of music as the children perform an array of songs. It was a chance for the kids to show off what they have accomplished this year at their annual Spring Arts Festival. One of the classes is even selling their creations to help children they have never met. Painted butterfly rocks are going for a dollar each with profits making their way to support children with brain cancer at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus.
"It was fun and I like doing it because it helps the kids and it gives money to them so they can have stuff to do," said Maverick Kelley, Bath 4th grader.
"I like doing it because it helps people with brain cancer and helps them get better so they can have the rest of their life to have fun," said Gwyn Foust, Bath 4th grader.Â
"I feel fabulous about the kids because they have been extremely creative and they volunteered to man our booth tonight at the festival and they have just been troopers," said Betty Wiedenbein, 4th grade teacher at Bath.
Wiedenbein says the students not only learned about compassion by painting the rocks but also got a business lesson as well. They now know a little about economics and how a business income takes into account the daily expenses, investing, and giving to charity much like what they are doing with their rock sales.
