Camp Woodhaven has spent the last year investing in their campers and they are ready to show their efforts to the public.
Just under 70 girls are spending their week the Girl Scouts Way...at Camp Woodhaven, making new friends and having some summer camp fun!
"If you don't do a lot of stuff for summer, it's a lot of fun and you get to meet new people from close to town," says camper Callie Shawhan, 11.
New this summer, the Girl Scouts of Western Ohio (GSWOH) made quite a few renovations to their facilities at Woodhaven. They added more bunk space as well as additional program space across multiple buildings and a new Woodhaven Historical Center, and a playground.
The council wanted to make the girls' experience the best it can be, and so far things are looking good.
"I think it's amazing," says camp counselor Jessica Day. "I think the money that's been put into Camp Woodhaven here really has just emphasized and changed everything. The girls' experience will be so much better with the new opportunities that we can now provide for them."
The council is hoping the new updates will encourage more troops to utilize the camp and help the camp grow as a whole.
"We really think about with Girl Scouts that retention, we want the girls to stay with us as long as we can," says Lissa Brown, Director of Regional Services at GSWOH. "We know that outdoor experiences, not only are they an equalizer, they allow girls to really come together and discover themselves, but they bring those girls together and right now more than ever girls need a safe space to learn, to play, just to identify who they are with really supportive role models that are here at camp."
The renovations were completed just before the summer began but the camp wanted to wait until the girls were there to show it off to the public.
