LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The flare at Cenovus is burning a little bigger because there is a unit issue with one of their processes.
According to the Allen County EMA, the bigger flare is part of their normal shutdown procedure, because product is being sent to the flare. The EMA director says there is no reported risk to the community. All employees have been accounted for and Cenovus is monitoring air quality. All response efforts being handled in house at the Lima refinery.
**Update** July 30, 2024, Press Release from Cenovus Energy: Lima Refining Company is responding to an issue at its facility. Refinery operations crews are responding and no external agency has been called to respond.
All workers have been accounted for and no injuries have been reported. As the Refinery responds, community members will see larger than normal flaring as part of our normal shutdown procedures.
Local air quality is being monitored. The Refinery’s first priority is the safety of our people, responders, and the community.
