Guests of the Cridersville Historical Society could learn all about the village's history- from the prehistoric humans who hunted mastodons, all the way up to recent times. There museum has plenty of information, photographs, and artifacts that tell the stories of the people and events that shaped the development of the area.

One topic the museum's volunteers know quite well is the economic boom resulting from Benjamin Faurot's discovery of crude oil in the area back in 1885.

"What was then called the Lima Oil Field was the largest known oil reserve in the world. Lots of pumping action was going on, drilling, lots of people coming in, and Cridersville was literally right in the middle of what was defined as the Lima Oil Field," explained Greg Myers, president of the Cridersville Historical Society.

The historical society will be open Monday, October 22nd, at 6:30pm after the village's parade for a spooky-themed "Halloween at the Museum."
