ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Allen County educators are taking some of the summer to learn about area employment opportunities.
It's part of the Allen County Business Advisory Council's "Education on Location Boot Camp" to increase knowledge of what types of occupations are available in Lima-Allen County. The hope is to share that information with their students to promote productive careers right here at home and to be prepared.
"To work on skills to be available and to reach out for all the resources that are available. So those are the things that we want to be able to take to them and to talk to them about," said Kevin King, a teacher from Bluffton.
"It's a sound career path that they can choose. A lot of times, high school students aren't made aware of that is an opportunity to look and seek employment in," commented Kim Furry, a supervisor at the Lima Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Furry says the city also provides on-the-job training and continuing education opportunities. This is the second year that Apollo Career Center has hosted the "Education on Location Boot Camp."
