ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Elderly Day Care Center spread holiday cheer today.

The Elderly Day Care Center held a Christmas party event for the seniors.
The Elderly Day Care Center held a Christmas party event for the seniors along with the music therapy program at the Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution. The members of the music therapy program joined the party via Zoom chat and sang popular holiday songs and carols to get in the spirit of Christmas. The seniors were also presented gifts such as blankets and mittens or hats.
Events like this present a beneficial opportunity for both the inmates and the seniors to get in the spirit of the holidays and give back to one another.

"That's exactly it. It gives the guys something to look forward to, something to feel good about themselves, a reason to continue even sing. They have a reason to sing. And then with the clients here they get a chance to inter-mix and do activities and sing and just be a part of something other than just these four walls," said Brenda Guice, administration assistant for deputies at the Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution.
The warden of Allen-Oakwood, Ryan Walters, says these types of events are a cornerstone for the prison and how they stay involved in the community for a great cause on both sides.
"I mean anytime, any opportunity we get to give back to the community, especially the population. The guys, we never want them to lose their sense of humanity just because they're inside the fence. We want them to be able to give back to the community whenever we can make that happen," stated Ryan Walters, warden at Allen-Oakwood Correctional Institution.

From December 18th to December 20th, the inmates at Allen-Oakwood will be directing and performing their own Christmas play which will be open to the public.
