The Elm Street grade separation project has hit another snafu as Century Link has delayed progress once again.

Century Link was expected to conduct their fiber relocation on Dec. 17, but it is now pushed back to Dec. 27 and will take two nights to complete. According to public works director, Howard Elstro, a meeting took place yesterday with the state rep from Century Link. The fiber relocation wasn't initially approved because a large customer asked for it to be differed until after Christmas. The bridge should've been nearly completed by now and the contractor is figuring out a solution to get back on track.

"We are very anxious, as are they," said Elstro. "Can they revamp their plans and keep the project on schedule for the completion date of late next year? We don't have that information yet and in fact they don't have that information yet, but they are doing all due diligence and planning at this point."

If all goes as planned, crews will be back out working after the first of the year. The project is behind by an estimated four months.
