WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - November is just getting started, but in Wapakoneta, it's not too early to get into the Christmas spirit.
Visitors to downtown Wapakoneta on Friday could get their photos taken by volunteers for free in front of the iconic space helmet- decked out in its new Santa Claus hat. The hat will make multiple appearances throughout the holiday season. Those dates will be announced on the First on the Moon Facebook page.
The photo op is part of the organization's ongoing mission to combine art with the city's moon landing history, and provide something festive and fun for both tourists and residents.
"It was specially made because we don't really know anybody else's head that is this big, so we went to Delphos Tent and Awning and they were able to take this crazy vision and make it happen for us. What we really hope by this is not only to just celebrate the beginning of the holiday season, but we also want to spark people's interest in Neil Armstrong, and what he did for the community, and what he did for space travel," explained Liz Davis, the secretary for First on the Moon.
You can still get your photo taken with the helmet on Saturday (11/04) from 10am to 2pm.
