The use of helmets is the greatest defense against serious injury or death. The statistics are eye-catching in that nearly 75% of motorcycle fatalities in Ohio since 2017 resulted from no helmet use. However, it's not just about the experience and safety of the rider but the other motorists on the road. Last year, over half of motorcycle accidents were involved with another vehicle. The Ohio State Highway Patrol is reminding everyone to look twice as they are smaller and hard to see, which also makes it difficult to judge their speed.
The Putnam County Sheriff’s office is investigating a motorcycle crash that left an Ottoville man seriously injured. The just before 3 am Saturday morning, deputies were called to road 25P just outside of Ottoville. There they found Jasper Fout alongside the roadway next to a motorcycle. Fout was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s with life threatening injuries. He was not wearing a helmet a the time of the crash and deputies say that alcohol is a contributing factor. The crash remains under investigation.

Airgas's program started in 2018 with the goal to improve high school students' welding skills and to combat worker shortage. Residents and visitors of Auglaize County will notice some new artwork in Downtown Wapakoneta. First on the Moon celebrated the revealing of an out-of-this-world sculpture at Park Platz in Wapak on Friday. The sculpture included a very large astronaut helmet constructed from aluminum and stainless steel. Additionally, engraved granite with the signatures from all the four frogmen who retrieved the Apollo 11 members from the ocean, once they returned to Earth, was crafted and placed beside the new sculpture.
Troopers say 59-year-old Scott Stombaugh died at the scene. Just before 5 o’clock, he was driving his Harley Davidson west on State Route 67 near mile post 5 when he went off the right side of the road into a ditch. Wapak troopers say he was not wearing a helmet. They don't think drugs or alcohol played a part. The crash remains under investigation.
