The geese population in Lima parks is down thanks to the help of area volunteers.
Public Works Director, Howard Elstro says the efforts by his department and area residents have greatly reduced the number of geese around the city. What they are calling the harassment of the flocks by sound and motion is working. Elstro says they will continue the process through the fall in hopes of reducing the number of geese even more.
"From time to time people will see parked vehicles on the grass or on pedestrian bikeways or on playing fields and they will possibly hear a shotgun blast which I want to assure the public those are blanks. But it is becoming very effective, this harassment technique in getting rid of the annoying geese in our park lands, said Public Works Director, Howard Elstro.
Elstro says the will start back at it in March of next year to get an early start. Anyone who wants to volunteer to should help to contact Elstro's office.
