The Justice Department is saying it won't give cities law enforcement grant money unless they give federal immigration authorities access to jails and alert them when someone facing deportation will be released from local custody. We spoke to Allen County Sheriff, Matt Treglia and he says they've always complied with this rule and will continue to do so.
"Yeah, we do receive a grant and we will comply anything the justice department wants us to do as far as illegal aliens, however we very rarely run into this problem," says Sheriff Treglia.
Police departments use the grant money for things like bullet proof vests and body cameras.
