LIMA, OH (WLIO) - There is no question that it's sweltering outside. But that's not stopping some activities from still going on.
The City of Lima's Summer Playground Program is doing all it can to beat the heat and still have fun. The kids hit the playground early in the day and you could tell they were taking it easy. Some found shade, while exerting a little bit of energy here and there.
Kids also got to enjoy the air conditioning at Liberty Arts Magnet School as they get lunch as part of the Lima City Schools free summer lunch program. But after that, it's back to Faurot Park and a cool treat.
The kids also know to take a break and rehydrate.
"Mostly, I'm on the swings. When it's not hot, I'm just playing freeze tag or something," commented Jamiya Ward, a 3rd grader.
"We play football. We go to the splash pad. We go to the park and all that stuff," said Jakhi Bridges, a 6th grader.
"We're bringing extra water for the kids so they have plenty of water at the park. We're encouraging them to bring their water bottles to have water in the morning and to refill throughout the day. Taking extra water breaks have been a huge must. We have our leaders really emphasizing these water breaks, bringing them popsicles in the afternoon," explained Julia Washington-Allen, a playground coordinator.
They also have access to the Children's Fountain in Faurot Park to cool off.
