There is no question that it's sweltering outside. But that's not stopping some activities from still going on. The City of Lima's Summer Playground Program is doing all it can to beat the heat and still have fun. The kids hit the playground early in the day. You can tell they are taking it easy, finding some shade, and exerting a little bit of energy here and there. They enjoy the air conditioning at Liberty Arts Magnet School as they get lunch as part of the Lima City Schools free summer lunch program. Then it's back to Faurot Park and a cool treat. The kids also know to take a break and rehydrate.

The American Township Fire Department and police are investigating an early morning fire that destroyed a playground in the Laurel Oaks subdivision. Firefighters were called to the playground around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning. The rubber mulch and the plastic playground equipment were destroyed in the blaze. Fire officials say there is no electricity that runs to the playground, so they are calling the fire suspicious. The playground is owned by the Laurel Oaks Neighborhood Association.
