RUSSELLS POINT, OH (WLIO) - The firefighters of Russells Point gave kids a night to remember with the help of local law enforcement and Santa Claus.
For the 4th, the Indian Joint Fire District took St. Nick on a tour around the village, riding past the homes of all the good boys and girls in the department's rescue airboat, escorted by local police. Afterwards, families came out to the fire station to get free hot chocolate, a present, a present for each child, and their photos taken with Santa.
The community donated hundreds of toys for the event, and the first responders put a lot of hard work into keeping the tradition going.
"We all like to give back to the community. The volunteer firemen like to do that, and the local police departments, of course they help a lot in that also to get the traffic and get the attention. I want to thank all the firefighters for doing all the work they do to have this. You know, without them it would not be possible. And also, Lieutenant Steve Reid, really heads up this project. He's done a wonderful job in making this happen for our community," said Mark Gibson, chief of the Indian Joint Fire District.
Kids could also put their name down for a chance to win one of four bicycles donated by an anonymous local business.
