LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Kiwanis Ohio District Governor was at Tuesday's family meeting inducting new members into the Lima Kiwanis Club and also spoke about her Bee a Hero project.

The Kiwanis Ohio District Governor was at Tuesday's family meeting inducting new members into the Lima Kiwanis Club and also spoke about her Bee a Hero project.

With the rate at which bees have been dying, she is encouraging clubs and others to create pollinator habitats to allow bees to thrive so they can pollinate our food sources. But it's more than just planting native plants that needs to be done to protect the bees.

With the rate at which bees have been dying, Kelly Brown is encouraging clubs and others to create pollinator habitats to allow bees to thrive.

"But then to go pesticide- and herbicide-free at home or go non-toxic at home. Because just last year in the United States a billion pounds of pesticides were used in the United States. 60% of that was in-home use. So if we can limit or eliminate our home use of pesticides by 60%, we can make a huge impact in Ohio and throughout the United States," said Kelly Brown, Kiwanis Ohio District Governor.
