Law enforcement offices are really urging anyone that is going to get a gun under the new constitutional carry law to make sure they understand the law.

It can’t be said enough, “know the law,” because it is now the gun owner’s responsibility to decide if they are qualified to carry a weapon. The Lima Police Department wants to uphold people's constitutional right to bear arms and doesn’t want to see people get in trouble because they didn’t follow the rules.

Lima Police Major Ron Hollman says, “We are going to view our efforts to enforce the Constitution, everyone’s constitutional rights safely and impartially. We don’t see that as a huge concern. We’ve had legal updates with the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office, so we feel that we’re on the same page as far as how we’re going to approach the new law.”

Hollman says carrying a gun is a lifestyle change. It’s not just shooting at a target; it’s learning how to handle it. He encourages individuals to still get training.
