LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Liberty Arts Magnet School 7th and 8th graders performed Wednesday night in the school's first recital to focus entirely on dancers.

Dancing in the Lights featured 11 songs focused on the theme of light. The performance included a variety of glowing props and showcased the upgrades to the Joe Henderson Auditorium's lighting system.

In the past, dance students performed in recitals alongside the other arts. This dance-only show allowed them to to not only get more time in the spotlight,  but also take on bigger roles in creating and planning it.

"A lot of the work tonight was created by the students. If you see solos, duets, small groups, it was all choreographed by the students," explained Amanda Sroka, the dance teacher at Liberty Arts Magnet. "They've helped me create dances before, but this is the first time they've really kind of done it on their own. I've kind of guided them, but it's their work, so I'm excited for them to perform it."

The next arts performance will be by the Lima Senior Band & Orchestra, on December 7th, at 7pm.
