LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima Community Aquatic Park is wrapping up the summer season with several family-friendly events designed to give residents more opportunities to enjoy the pool.

The first event is Christmas in July, scheduled for Saturday during regular pool hours. Families can take part in holiday-themed activities while enjoying a day at the aquatic park. The celebrations continue on Aug. 8 with two special events. During Veterans Appreciation Day, veterans and their families will receive $3 off admission. That evening, the park will host Glow Stick Night from 7 to 9 p.m., featuring special lighting and glow-in-the-dark items throughout the facility.

Parks and recreation officials say they are offering a variety of events at different times to better accommodate family schedules while providing unique experiences beyond a traditional day at the pool.

"The heat doesn't turn off until later in the evening. So great opportunity to get families out there and have something different than just swimming. The glow sticks will be an awesome addition to just being at the pool," said Kelsey Pughsly of Lima Parks and Recreation.

The aquatic park will also continue its Sensory Thursdays throughout August from 9 to 11 a.m. The program gives families with children who have sensory sensitivities an opportunity to enjoy the pool in a quieter environment with reduced noise and fewer distractions.
