Lima City Council looking to ban smoking and vaping in city parks

Lima, OH (WLIO) -  Councilors will be voting on creating the law for all city-owned parks and outdoor recreational venues, which would include the amphitheater currently under construction in the downtown area. According to the ordinance, any violation of the proposed law would be considered a minor misdemeanor and will be subject to a $150 fine. The city, with Activate Allen County and the Allen County Creating Healthy Communities program, reduced the rate of smokers in Lima. But the numbers for lung and bronchus cancers are still higher than the national average. The ordinance states that secondhand smoke levels in outdoor public places can reach the levels found in indoor facilities. Council will be discussing this and other topics at the Monday meeting that starts at 7 pm in council chambers.
