Lima City Council's Derry Glenn giving away free Thanksgiving turkeys for 15th year

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - With Thanksgiving coming up soon, a Lima city councilman is continuing to make sure that local families have food for the holiday.

For the 15th year, 6th ward councilman Derry Glenn is organizing a turkey giveaway for those in need. Sign-up to receive a turkey will be held on one day only- Monday, November 6th at the Bradfield Center from 3-6 pm.

Last year, over 250 turkeys were given away, and with the help of sponsors and donations, the hope for this year is to hit 400. Glenn often hears from people who have been helped in years past and sees many positive chain reactions that come out of this giveaway.

"He said, 'Mr. Glenn, you gave my mom a turkey and she needed it real bad.' He said, 'She's gone now, but I want to buy you three turkeys man, meet me at Wal-Mart and I'll buy you three turkeys,'" Derry Glenn recalled. "Those exciting stories you hear, and when there's a smile on their face when they pick the turkeys up, that's what makes me happy."

If you are interested in donating money or turkey to help provide Thanksgiving dinner for those in need, call Councilman Glenn at (419) 905-9572.
