Lima councilman continues air conditioner program for seniors

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — After a long winter, many people look forward to warmer temperatures, but summer heat can create serious health risks for older adults.

Lima Sixth Ward Councilman Derry Glenn is continuing his air conditioner program for a 10th year.

Glenn collects new and gently used air conditioners and provides them to seniors ages 60 and older to help them stay safe and comfortable in their homes during the hot summer months.

He said more than 30 people are already on this year's waiting list.

Glenn's goal this year is to distribute 400 air conditioners to people in need, but he said community donations are needed to help reach that mark.

"We set a record last year. We had 325 air conditioners last year, so that's a record set," Glenn said. "We want to continue to show our hometown pride and helping people out because we have people from all over, not just Lima."

To donate, contact Glenn at 419-905-9572. Monetary donations can be made payable to the Lima Community Foundation, account No. 157, at 101 N. Elizabeth St., Lima, Ohio.
