Staying warm is very important while experiencing these freezing temperatures, but not properly using the right equipment can put you in harm’s way.
From central heat to kerosene heaters, and space heaters, Americans everywhere are doing all they can do remain warm during the winter season.
However, heating mechanisms like space heaters can cause a significant amount of damage if left unattended.
“The danger comes from people having the space heaters too close to drapes or clothes,” said Jordan Pughsley, Lima Fire Department firefighter paramedic. “If those clothes catch on fire and they’re not there to be notified or to notify us, then the fire can get out of hand.
To better prepare for a fire, he suggests that residents place fire detectors in several rooms and invest in CO detectors.
