It is a labor of love as current and retired firefighters come together to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
It has been an annual event since 2007 for the Lima Fire Department to participate in the Muscular Dystrophy Association "Fill the Boot." They have been out since Thursday afternoon at the corner of Robb Avenue and North West Street, getting donations that will help children in northwest Ohio.Â
The cause is near and dear to the Lima Fire Department's organizer, as his mother-in-law passed away due to a form of muscular dystrophy.
Firefighters will be out from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, with their boots asking you to help fill them.
"She had Lou Gehrig's, and that is one of the 43 types of muscular dystrophy. And so she passed away in 2010," commented Jeremy Welker, coordinator.
Welker says they have raised more than $135,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association over the years. Firefighters will be out from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 10, 2024, with their boots asking you to help fill them.
