LIMA, OH (WLIO) - The Lima Noon Optimist Club's biggest fundraiser of the year is back this weekend.
The 74th annual Lima Noon Optimist Home Show kicked off on Friday. There's a little bit of something for everyone, from adoptable rescue dogs to experts available to talk about insurance, gutters, or other home renovation necessities. Visitors can also look forward to special entertainment like the Lima Area Youth Orchestra concert at 3 pm on Saturday, or Safety City's radKIDS demonstration at noon on Saturday. Plenty of booths are also offering prize drawings. For many people, it's helpful to get a head start on comparing local services before home improvement season.
"We always hold the home show the second weekend of March. It's a great time because we're coming out of winter, everybody's sick of those winter blues and they are ready to start planning for spring and get those projects going. So it's just a great time to get those ideas started," explained Cindy Nelson, the Noon Optimists' secretary and treasurer.
The home show also provides a perfect venue for local nonprofits to educate new people about their resources and services.
"As long as we've been in the Allen County community, there's still people that are unaware of our services. Being at an event like this really spreads that awareness and helps people understand what we do. Everybody sees the name Crime Victim Services and they're not really sure what that means, so we're here to explain that," said Gina Brun, a court advocate team supervisor for Crime Victim Services.
The Noon Optimist Home Show continues at the Allen County Fairgrounds on Saturday from 10 am to 8 pm and Sunday from 12 pm to 5 pm.
