LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima residents tried something new for dinner Saturday night in honor of Haitian Flag Day.
People of all backgrounds were invited to a Haitian food and drink tasting to celebrate the holiday, which marks the anniversary of Haiti adopting their national flag in 1803.
Haitian cooking is often described as being more spicy than traditional U.S. meals. Guests were able to try Prestige, the country's most popular beer, different flavors of soda, and a variety of different dishes.
"We got griyo; we do it with pork; and then soup joumou; we put a lot of vegetables in there; and then we got salad russe. Salad russe, we do it with mashed potatoes, beets," explained Rubens Augustin, the CEO of First Class Protocol LLC.
This is the second Haitian food taste testing night hosted by First Class Protocol.
