Along with a $1.8 million renovation, Lima Stadium is getting a new name. Â
Lima Stadium will now be called Spartan Stadium. Â The Lima City School Board of Education approved the name change during a morning meeting. Â Superintendent Jill Ackerman says the change reflects renewed growth in pride for the school and its mascot. Â The school district recently changed its logo, updated its website and started a t-shirt campaign all in an effort to increase school spirit. Â Â
The name change coincides with a major renovation of the stadium which includes new bleachers, locker rooms and concession stands. Â Construction is expected to be complete for the beginning of the school year. Â
Other schools and organizations use the stadium as well, including Lima Central Catholic, the Lima Warriors, and midget football. Â However, Ackerman says since the Lima City School District owns the stadium, the district has the right to change the name. Â Ackerman adds that the district does not charge LCC to use the stadium. Â She says LCC pays for the cost of the lights, but keeps the profits from ticket and concession sales. Â
