Lima Stadium name changed to Spartan Stadium

Along with a $1.8 million renovation, Lima Stadium is getting a new name.

Lima Stadium will now be called Spartan Stadium.  The Lima City School Board of Education approved the name change during a morning meeting.  Superintendent Jill Ackerman says the change reflects renewed growth in pride for the school and its mascot.  The school district recently changed its logo, updated its website and started a t-shirt campaign all in an effort to increase school spirit.

The name change coincides with a major renovation of the stadium which includes new bleachers, locker rooms and concession stands.  Construction is expected to be complete for the beginning of the school year.

Other schools and organizations use the stadium as well, including Lima Central Catholic, the Lima Warriors, and midget football.  However, Ackerman says since the Lima City School District owns the stadium, the district has the right to change the name.  Ackerman adds that the district does not charge LCC to use the stadium.  She says LCC pays for the cost of the lights, but keeps the profits from ticket and concession sales.
