A Spencerville boy gets to travel in style thanks to Make-A-Wish, and it was a wish that will bring smiles to his face for years to come. Our Kaylee Bowers has the story.
To say that 7-year-old Jackson Lee likes his new golf cart would be an understatement.
"He smiles the whole time, he squeals and kicks his legs, you could just tell he is having a great time," said Joel Lee, Jackson's Father.
The cart was a gift thanks to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Ohio, Kentucky, and Indiana and has been a great addition to the Lee family.
"It's something we can do together as a family, he can enjoy. We can ride around places, it's easier to transport him, with his wheelchair and things. It means a lot, we have really enjoyed it so far since we have had it," said Miranda Lee, Jackson's Mother.
When Jackson was 2-years-old he was diagnosed with kidney failure. While he was going through dialysis, he was put on the list for a wish at Make-A-Wish. Three years ago, his mother Miranda found out that she was a perfect match and donated a kidney to Jackson. Make-A-Wish reached out to grant a wish for Jackson and after talking about it, a wheelchair accessible golf cart seemed like the perfect choice.
"You know, it was a really a surprise to me, and I think stories like this go a long way to spreading that knowledge that it's not just for terminal kids. It's just for kids that just have chronic illnesses," said Joel.
Thanks to some local donations, another wish was granted and something that Jackson is grateful for.
"Just the other day and immediately after he got off of the bus, we went on a ride, when he sees it his eyes light up, you can definitely tell it means a lot to him," said Joel.
