ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The trial for a Mansfield man who is facing charges for a March stabbing has been pushed back until September 2024.
30-year-old Rocky Hayner signed a time waiver this week, and the judge has moved the trial back to the fall. His lawyer has asked that statements that he made during interviews with law enforcement be suppressed. A hearing will be held in July to discuss that motion.
Hayner was indicted by an Allen County grand jury in April on the charges of felonious assault and aggravated burglary for allegedly stabbing Carlos Maldonado at a home on 4th Street in Lima on March 5th.
During a preliminary hearing, Lima Police Department detectives stated that Hayner rode a bicycle from the Mansfield area to confront Maldonado, who was seeing Hayner's ex-girlfriend, and he didn't like how Maldonado was treating her. Detectives say the two fought after Hayner forced his way into the home, which led to Hayner stabbing Maldonado.
